Evidence for Effectiveness of Masks

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by a virus. To prevent it, people should cover their mouth and nose with a mask. It is effective. Masks are made of a material that is both breathable and impermeable, which allows air to pass through while keeping harmful fluids or bacteria out. There are plenty of different types of masks, but they all had one thing in common: they were either breathable or impermeable. The mask is an easy and effective way to protect yourself from the virus.

The Mask Offers Some Protection

This mask is made from imported materials and is made to fit your face perfectly. Inside, the mask is made of fine gauze with cotton lining, which is comfortable to wear. It is worth considering the value of a mask to your health. In particular, masks can offer protection from airborne viruses.

As a wearer of masks, you have probably noticed how much of their benefits have to do with the material they are made with, especially if they are made of cotton, which most masks are. As cotton fibers get soaked in sweat and water, they can absorb and retain much more virus than, say, the nylon mask cloth that most masks are made of.

Who Should or Shouldn’t Wear a Mask

The face masks should be worn:

  • When a person is in a public setting
  • By people two years of age and older
  • When a person is around people who do not live with them, including in the person’s home or in someone else’s home
  • When a person is traveling on a plane, train, bus, or other forms of public transportation.
  • In the home, if someone is sick with symptoms of coronavirus or has tested positive for COVID-19

The Centre For Disease Control and Prevention recognizes that there are particular instances when wearing a face mask may not be attainable. In these situations, consider alternatives and adaptations.

The categories of people who are excluded from the necessity to wear a mask are:

  • An individual with a disability who can’t wear a mask, or can’t cautiously wear a mask, for causes related to the disability
  • A child under the age of two years
