Terminating An Employee: Things One Needs To Consider

When the employee does not perform well the last option left with the organization is to terminate them. Even though the termination process is a stressful one but this becomes mandatory. Only if the company or organization is suffering due to a particular employee’s performance then this step is taken. Low efficiency and low productivity is the main reason for employee termination.

Things To Keep In Mind Before Terminating An Employee

Before terminating an employee there are some points that the employer needs to focus on. Even though the employer discusses the performance concerns with employees but they never believe that they too can get fired. Digesting this is a bit difficult but it is in the hands of the employer to make things easier for the people who will be terminated. With a supportive approach, things can be made easier for employees.

Points To Remember Before Terminating

  • A pre-warning is always better before firing an employee. Before discharging an employee from his\her responsibilities it is their right to know about the termination. Never keep them blind-sided.
  • Remember to terminate an employee face to face. Never use the electronic media that is an email or by a phone call. They too need proper courtesy as any other human being will need.
  • During the termination process, it is always better to include a witness that can be another employee. It can be the employee’s immediate supervisor with someone from HR management.
  • Another thing to remember before firing an employee is that it never delays the process as it is quite stressful for both the employer and the employee.
  • A straightforward approach towards the employee is always better. Moreover, approaching the employee with respect is the best gesture one can perform.

Why Is The Termination Process Stressful For Both The Manager And The Employee?

Every organization keeps recruiting employees as per their requirements.  Moreover, all the underperforming employees are fired as they are either not as productive as they were or are inefficient. When an employee is working as a team they work they all do reflects on each one. Therefore, it is the duty of the employee that he\she needs to give her best. So that in future the management does not raise fingers on the performance of that particular employee. Hence, choosing the right people for a particular job is both tedious and a challenging job.

Identifying who is an efficient performer and who is not is also a part of the success. Any work given to the workers requires a 100% commitment towards it. if the manager feels that people in his organization are not serious about their job termination is the last option. And thus, it is a stressful process but remember to be clear of what you want from an employee before hiring him\her.

Conclusion

Firing someone from the job is not at all pleasant. Every work done in the organization has some rules related to it. Which the higher authorities or the managers need to follow. The manner by which one terminates someone is something that matters in an organization. Therefore, making the termination process less unpleasant is something that the managers or employers or HR managers can do.
