What are the Types of Organizational Culture

Organizational culture is ever-evolving. It is such a conglomeration of factors that change in organizational culture cannot happen overnight. It is governed by various attributes of the business, its requirements, managerial effectiveness and competency, employee interactions and aspirations, business goal and more. Nevertheless, it is not entirely impossible to bring a gradual change in the work culture of an organization. To make that happen you need to have a good understanding of the culture of an organization. Let us dwell on it a bit.

Clan Culture

This refers to the social relation between workers in the workplace. A company having a good clan culture has an amicable relationship among the workers. In such an environment, people working under the same roof have a lot in common; it is more like being a part of a large family. In such a scenario, the team leaders or executive is seen as a mentor. Such a culture can instill among the workers some priceless values such as loyalty. This indicates that all the workers are very keenly involved in achieving the daily and long term goals of the organization. Such an organization also takes care of its workers and undertakes long-term Human Resource development programs. There is also a nice bonding among colleagues by the common value of morality. Success, in such organizations, is a combination of meeting the needs of clients and taking care of its people. Such an environment promotes participation, teamwork, etc.

Adhocracy Culture

Such a culture boasts of a creative and dynamic working environment where employees love to take risks. Leaders in such organizational cultures are themselves risk-takers and innovators. They are the ones who abate the habit of risk-taking and innovation and instill it among workers. In such environment experimentation and innovation are the drivers of encouragement and bonding among the workers. The long-term goal of such organizations is growth. Workers in such an environment have a sense of freedom and are ready to jump ship when opportunity beckons. In fact, the work culture of such organizations not only encourages them to do so but also prepares them to do so by inculcating the habits of risk-taking, innovation, and personal growth.

Market Culture

Such organizations have a result-based culture that harps on getting things done by any means. In such cultural setups within an organization, people are encouraged to be competitive and focused. Leaders, in such situations, are usually tough ones who mean what they say. They also have high expectations. The emphasis in such cultures is winning and this is what helps the organization get going.

Hierarchy Culture
