3 Signs that you are a bad boss and your employees are leaving because of you

A bad boss in a workspace not only creates challenges for your employees to perform efficiently and put out maximum productivity but also affects the entire workflow of the organization negatively. There could be 2 possible outcomes; a continued decrement in productivity levels leading to chaos and conflicts or employee turnovers decreasing the employee retention rate in your company. Both are not idealistic situations.

To maintain a healthy workspace, many organizations will recognize the threat a bad boss is imposing and will take the necessary actions to prevent or solve the situation. This is mostly done through polishing leadership skills, setting clear goals for management or the last step is termination. Companies who do not take the necessary steps, unknowingly create a toxic work culture that would lead the situation of the company to the worse.

To help you better understand what it means to be a bad boss and how would this toxicity of a bad boss can affect your employees and organization, here is a list of 3 signs why your employees are leaving because of you:

1. Lack of clarity and vision

It is no secret that the leader in any organization is the captain of the ship and basically the entire organization is after the objectives and goals that are set by these leaders. Leaders are responsible for leading their employees to achieve a certain goal and to do it effectively.

Lack of clarity and vision is like driving blind. As employees look up to the leaders in the organization, if leaders are not clear and carry confusion and an unclear vision, then there is no expectation from the employees to stay productive or engaged. This would eventually lead to an increase in employee turnover and a decrease in the retention rate.

2. Public Criticism

Humans are prone to make mistakes and learn from them. And it is okay to make mistakes, but also finding solutions to correct those mistakes is as important because some of these mistakes are bound to damage the company profile or pay an expensive bill.

Although for a boss it is justified to criticize the employee who made a mistake, it doesn’t mean or allow them to do it publicly. Publicly criticizing an employee is demeaning them, which could directly be taken on self-respect. Most of the time, employees do not accept this and may leave the company by terminating their contracts or suing a legal case, or any other conflict can arise from this, even possibly turning this matter into a personal matter.

3. Not respecting the employees

Well, some bosses are just bosses. They take their roles too seriously. Similarly, as an employer, you are running a business and deserve respect. So do the employees working hard.

Disrespecting and misuse of power employees is a big signs of a bad boss.

Final Words

For many organizations, it is included in their retention plan to make sure managers and leaders are not misusing their power to impose tasks on employees or simply being bad bosses. And it’s a priority to make sure that actions are taken to prevent any consequences.
