There are many forms of discrimination, and it happens for various reasons. Among the most common discriminations that need attention from society and must be addressed to eliminate is discrimination against religion, race, sex, gender, color, ethnicity, origin, disability, and age.

To help you differentiate and understand these discriminatory practices, here is a list of different types of discrimination:

A good example of gender discrimination is women not getting jobs, promotions, opportunities to study, or equal rights as men in many areas of society.

Although it may sound the same as gender discrimination and cases might overlap in many scenarios, the two point-out different issues in society.

Discrimination of someone’s sex is about their acceptance in society, having equal rights despite their biological appearances, and removing the stigma of being a certain way.

4. Religious discrimination

Religious discrimination is not an unheard term, in fact, it’s one of the major reasons why many countries recognized official laws to eliminate discrimination. Religious discrimination is practiced in many areas of society, for example at workplaces, shopping stores, schools, and housing agencies to rent or buy a home, etc. People are discriminated against or acted against because of their belief and their practices of religion. Remember religious discrimination does not exclude those without a religion.

5. Linguistic and Cultural Discrimination

Languages, cultures, and traditions are different around the world. Linguistic and cultural discrimination is when you are not allowed to speak your own language, practice your traditional ways of things, and culturally change for others. Not accepting one’s language and culture is discrimination against them.
