Common Challenges During Work From Home And How To Tackle Them

Due to Coronavirus pandemic, the entire world is under lockdown and organizations are no exception. To keep working the organizations are recommending their employees to work from home. Although most of the employees have given a thumbs-up to the work from the home concept, the entire concept can be challenging for some. Some employees are accustomed to the work from home structure; on the other hand, the concept is entirely new and challenging for some.

To make the task less challenging here is a list of some challenges that one will face during work from home and the means to tackle them.

  • At-home Distractions: There is a slight difference between interruption and distraction. Interruptions come from outside, like a knock on the door from a courier delivery guy, or from family members or pets and friends. Distractions, on the other hand, include getting involved in home chores or using social media during working times. To get rid of the former, one can use headphones, do not disturb signs, or close the door during working hours. For the latter, one can draw a clear line between working and non-working hours, or dress up like one does while working in the office and feel the difference. Maintaining a fixed place for working is also one of the solutions to the distractions.
  • Collaborating with Colleagues and Clients: At the workplace, it is easy to regularly collaborate with colleagues and clients but while sitting at home, the facility becomes unavailable. There are, therefore, plenty of tools and products available to maintain synchrony with team members and clients. There is various software available that can make video conferencing, web conferencing, file sharing and other tasks easy and convenient.
  • Isolation and Loneliness: Offices and workplaces give one the zeal of working but staying alone at home can take away the zeal. Isolation and loneliness are some of the major challenges while working from home. Therefore connectivity and routine can be the solution to it. Having fixed working hours just like the office hours will be helpful in maintaining routine and proper connectivity via video conferencing and video chats can be the solution to isolation.
  • Motivation: Lack of motivation is another aspect of working from home that leads to unproductive working hours and enhanced procrastination. Daily deadline and check on daily progress by the team leaders can bring back the motivation. A comparison worklist can also keep one motivated that will show the progress of other team members during the quarantine.
  • Switching-off: Work from home gives you the opportunity of working at your own convenient time but this does not mean that you will work day and night and ignore family and friends. Connecting with family and friends gives you the moment to recreate and rejuvenate. Therefore maintain a fixed working time and avoid work during odd hours.

Conclusion

It is challenging for people to work from home and stay motivated the entire time as this lockdown shall last for longer than expected. It is, therefore, necessary to maintain your sanity and routine to keep working. Follow the working routine religiously that will keep you up in the game.
