ABOUT THE EVENT

Overview:

What can your employees say and do on social media and what can you as an employer do about it.  Social media has raised so many questions for HR regarding what you can and cannot do when an employee posts an e-mail regarding your workplace.  There are many legal issues employers need to understand about what they can do and there are many laws that govern what you can do.  This conference will provide you with the essentials on what you should know prior to terminating an employee for what they say or post on Facebook or other social media.  It will also help you better understand what you need to include in your social media policy to protect your organization from liability.

Learning Objectives:

  • Action you can take to terminate employees for what they say on social media sites like Facebook and what actions  you should avoid taking
  • Recent activity the NLRB has taken targeting employers who terminate employees for social media site posts
  • Overview of the recent cases on what is lawful and unlawful regarding social media and your employees
  • Summary of other laws that prohibit terminations for lawful off-duty conduct
  • Understanding of what actually constitutes lawful off-duty conduct
  • Best Practices to protect your organization from these legal issues
  • Recommendations for best practices when drafting your Social Media Policy
  • How to Avoid Legal Liability When Drafting your Social Media Policy
  • Recent case studies
