Overtime is probably one of the most contentious employment issues. Many employees know that when they work more than 40 hours a week, each extra hour entitles them to 1.5 times their regular hourly rate. Some employees will make a point of working (or claiming) overtime pay. For each employee who does so the cost can multiply quickly and exponentially. Employers who either encourage or turn a blind eye to this practice can suffer tremendous losses, paying needlessly for extra hours worked or claimed.
