The more things change, the more they look the same – or do they? With the ever-expanding list of protected classes, the proposed (and in some areas, actual) elimination of heretofore generally accepted rental qualifying standards, the more expansive interpretation of what the protected classes actually protect, and the increasing promotion of social engineering initiatives marketed as the ‘expansion” of fair housing and civil rights, what will compliance look like in the coming years?

This session will look at some of the most noteworthy fair housing cases, guidance and issues of 2019, and will provide a sneak peek at some of the predictions I’ll share in our January 2020 Fair Housing Forecast webinar.

Areas Covered

  • Evolution or more of the same: Disparate Impact Theory
  • Criminal Background Checks: Stricter guidelines and conditional approvals
  • The continuing expansion of the 1974 protected class of Sex
  • Real and faux Assistive Animals
  • Occupancy Standards, National Origin, Familial Status and you
  • Fair Housing, Civil Rights and Social Engineering: Where do the lines blur?
  • One Million Dollars and Counting: The rising cost of fair housing non-compliance.

Bonus Handout

We will provide a document with links to the information I present (cases and stories) as well as links to general fair housing compliance resource materials.
