About The Event
No specific case law. No real precedents. No established best practices. No policy manual. Welcome to the brave new COVID-19 world of fair housing compliance, where we are one step away from making up best practices on the fly, in real-time!
In this whirlwind of change, there is one constant: the need to comply with Fair Housing! This session will look at some of the most often asked questions about COVID 19 in the areas of Privacy; Safety of Employees, Residents and Prospects; Communications; Managing Resident Maintenance Requests and Preventive Maintenance Programs; Managing Common and Amenity Areas and Traffic Flow and working with various government agencies.
The following areas will be explored and strategies suggested:
- Is COVID-19 a disability or an illness – or both?
- If it is an illness, what accommodation requests can I expect?
- Can I – should I – inquire about staff, resident and vendor health status and what are my reporting responsibilities?
- Late rental payments, payment plans and evictions
- Can I limit access to – or close – common areas & amenities?
- How to manage maintenance requests, preventive maintenance, interactions with vendors and contractors?
- How to comply with government directives and requests
- Tours, inspections, renewals, managing traffic.
- Time for questions – lots of questions!
Handout: A curated PDF file of the most recent guidance documents from HUD, IREM, NAA, and any other agencies, law firms or associations who have issued guidance relevant to the multifamily industry.
