Understanding HUD compliance starts with understanding how the entire system works.
Many affordable housing professionals know what they need to do but not why the rules exist or how they are created. This foundational session provides a clear, big-picture overview of the HUD compliance framework - from Congress and federal regulations to HUD guidance, funding, and day-to-day property operations.
You'll learn how HUD is structured, how policies are developed and implemented, how funding reaches individual properties, and how compliance requirements impact leasing, certifications, occupancy, tenant files, and property management. By understanding the "why" behind the rules, you'll be better equipped to interpret requirements correctly, make informed decisions, and reduce compliance risk.
