ABOUT THE EVENT

Understanding HUD compliance starts with understanding how the entire system works.

Many affordable housing professionals know what they need to do but not why the rules exist or how they are created. This foundational session provides a clear, big-picture overview of the HUD compliance framework - from Congress and federal regulations to HUD guidance, funding, and day-to-day property operations.

You'll learn how HUD is structured, how policies are developed and implemented, how funding reaches individual properties, and how compliance requirements impact leasing, certifications, occupancy, tenant files, and property management. By understanding the "why" behind the rules, you'll be better equipped to interpret requirements correctly, make informed decisions, and reduce compliance risk.

What You'll Learn

  • HUD's structure and the roles of its key offices
  • How federal housing laws become HUD regulations and guidance
  • The hierarchy of laws, regulations, notices, and handbooks
  • How HUD funding flows from Congress to individual properties
  • Who administers HUD programs and their responsibilities
  • How compliance requirements translate into day-to-day property operations
  • Why compliance matters and how to avoid common mistakes

Why You Should Attend

Instead of simply memorizing rules, you'll gain the knowledge to understand how the entire HUD system works. This session will help you:

  • Interpret HUD requirements with greater confidence
  • Apply regulations consistently and correctly
  • Reduce costly compliance errors
  • Strengthen audit and MOR readiness
  • Build a solid foundation for long-term success in affordable housing

Who Should Attend?

This session is ideal for:

  • Property Managers and Assistant Property Managers
  • Compliance and Occupancy Specialists
  • Regional Managers and Regional Compliance Managers
  • Asset Managers, Owners, and Owner Representatives
  • Leasing Professionals
  • New affordable housing professionals
  • Anyone responsible for HUD compliance, tenant files, certifications, or subsidy administration
