Understanding and resolving EIV income discrepancies is one of the most critical - and often misunderstood - responsibilities in HUD multifamily compliance. Errors in handling discrepancies can lead to subsidy repayment issues, audit findings, tenant disputes, and significant compliance risk.
In this comprehensive 2-day workshop, participants will gain a practical understanding of what EIV does and does not report, how HUD’s data matching and refresh schedules work, and how to accurately interpret both the EIV Income Report and the Income Discrepancy Report.
Attendees will learn HUD’s required procedures for investigating, documenting, and resolving both valid and invalid income discrepancies, including how to properly calculate subsidy overpayments and underpayments using third-party verification. The training will also cover repayment agreement requirements, tenant and owner responsibilities, documentation standards, and HUD-required timelines for resolution.
This workshop is highly interactive and includes hands-on exercises, real-world case studies, mini-quizzes, and guided practice reconciling EIV Income Discrepancy Reports. Participants will actively work through discrepancy calculations and resolution scenarios to strengthen both confidence and compliance accuracy.
Please note: Participants should have a calculator available during the training.
