Citizenship and immigration compliance in HUD Multifamily Housing remains one of the most misunderstood and high-risk areas of occupancy administration. This practical webinar provides a step-by-step breakdown of HUD Section 214 requirements and how they apply to HUD Multifamily programs, including PBRA, Section 202/8, and other covered subsidy types.
Participants will learn how to properly determine citizenship and eligible immigration status, complete required verification procedures, navigate SAVE system responses, and correctly process mixed-status households. The session also explains owner obligations, resident rights, appeal timelines, rent proration calculations, and HUD-50059 coding requirements that commonly create findings during audits and Management and Occupancy Reviews (MORs).
Through real-world examples, operational guidance, and discussion of common compliance mistakes, attendees will gain practical strategies for managing one of the most technical areas of HUD occupancy compliance while avoiding fair housing and civil rights concerns.
Errors involving citizenship and immigration compliance can result in improper subsidy payments, incorrect rent calculations, audit findings, MOR deficiencies, and potential fair housing concerns. This training is designed to help affordable housing professionals reduce compliance risk by simplifying complex HUD requirements into practical operational steps staff can immediately apply.
Attendees will receive guidance on handling real-world situations involving mixed-status families, SAVE verification discrepancies, pending documentation, denials, and appeals. The webinar also explains the exact documentation HUD expects to see in tenant files and highlights common mistakes that frequently trigger findings during compliance reviews.
If your staff has ever struggled with qualifying immigration statuses, HUD-50059 coding, SAVE responses that do not match expectations, or the proper handling of mixed-status households, this session will provide the clarity and operational confidence needed to manage these situations correctly.
This webinar is designed for affordable housing professionals responsible for occupancy, eligibility, compliance, and certification activities within HUD Multifamily Housing programs, including:
