The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) provides important housing protections for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Recent updates to VAWA forms and requirements have created new responsibilities for multifamily housing professionals, making it essential for property managers and leasing teams to understand how and when to use these documents correctly.
We’ll focus on a practical overview of the latest VAWA requirements, including the purpose and proper use of required notices, certification forms, emergency transfer requests, and confidentiality protections.
You’ll learn how to respond appropriately when residents request VAWA protections, how to document interactions while safeguarding sensitive information, and how to avoid common compliance mistakes that can expose properties to legal and regulatory risk. The session will also review key timelines, recordkeeping expectations, and best practices for ensuring consistent application of VAWA policies across a multifamily portfolio.
