ABOUT THE EVENT

I-9 and E-Verify Essentials training focuses on the legal requirement for all U.S. employers to verify the identity and employment authorization of every new hire using Form I-9. E-Verify is an additional, voluntary program that allows employers to electronically confirm information from Form I-9 against government records to ensure a legal workforce. Training covers the proper completion and retention of Form I-9, the process of creating an E-Verify case, and understanding federal expectations for hiring practices.

Many more companies are opting to use both I-9 forms and E-Verify to minimize their liability with errors like social security numbers matching and outdated social security numbers or actual illegal workers violating immigration laws.

All federal workers have to use E-Verify. Some States have Mandatory use of E-Verify, and many companies volunteer for E-Verify. What might not be apparent is that E-Verify has been used to reduce liability for hiring illegal immigrants. Moreover, using E-Verify and ensuring I-9 form internal audits are an effective way to reduce liability and be prepared for external audits by ICE.
